  2. Deserts cover about 20% of the earth's land area. Some deserts get very hot during the day and very cold at night. Desert plants can soak up water and store it in thier leaves. They grow hairs and spines which help them to keep moisture in. They protect them from the sun and from hungry animals. The Thorny Deveil is a type of lizard that lives in the desert. It has large bristles and spines. Its has spines above each eye and a spiny hump behind its head.
